How to make your cookies
  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F/gas mark 4. Grease the baking tray with oil or butter.
  2. Mix the butter, sugar, egg and vanilla extract in a large bowl. Beat together with a spoon until soft and fluffy.
  3. Sift the flour into the bowl and add the salt. Mix together to form the dough.
  4. Using your hands, press the dough into a ball.
  5. Lightly flour a clean worktop and roll the dough to about 0.5cm thick
TIP: Before rolling out, wrap the dough in wrapping film and place in the refrigerator for 30 mins. This makes it easier to roll.
  6. Cut the biscuits out by pressing down with your hand on the cookie cutters. Squeeze all the trimmings together to make a ball and start rolling again!
  7. Place the cut out cookies onto the greased baking tray, spaced slightly apart and ask a grown up to place the tray in the oven for about 14 minutes until lightly browned.
  8. Ask a grown up to remove from the oven and place on a wire rack to cool. Once the cookies have cooled you can decorate them or eat them straight away!
